About

Teaching the digital painting class at SynStudio:

I’ve been teaching this class for 5 semesters.

The focus is on the fundamentals of painting (values, composition, color, etc.) to incorporate into digital art.

My purpose as a teacher is to “demystify” techniques and inspire intelligent practices to improve artistic skills over the duration of the course.

Mentoring with the Jeunes Volontaires program:

I act as a mentor to an aspiring writer/artist who wants to create a graphic novel about his perspective and experience with the student protests of 2012.

My goal is to teach him how to draw within a year so as to complete his novel.

I meet with him weekly after my class my SynStudio and we go over homework/exercices, etc.

Private teaching (volunteer):

I also teach another student (a tattoo artist that wants to improve his skills) at the same time.

I meet with him weekly as well (at the same time as the other student) to go over homework/exercises, etc.

Having both students who have different goals but starting with the same fundamentals creates an interesting dynamic where they both feed off each other.

I’m doing this because I had somebody mentor and help me out tremendously when I was just starting off my career and he always encouraged me to pay it forward.
